फर्ज, फर्जी, वर्दी और मर्जी!! Uri Review!!

It\’s not often that one of your passion is belated by another of your passion. As I had been for a bike ride to Konkan on the weekend this movie released, I watched it a couple of days later.

As the name and trailer suggest, this movie is about the manner in which 19 soldiers were martyred in the cowardly attack on army basecamp and how this was avenged. The casting has been brilliant. Ronnie screwvala who already has a bunch of top-notch films in his bag, adds another feather in his cap. Vicky Kaushal is on a roll with Raazi, Sanju Manmarziyan and now Uri. His acting skills, choice of films and/or his luck is bound to take him to greater heights, with this being just the beginning. Yami Gautam, who is seen after a long time, played the change over from one character to another with equal conviction. Kirti kulhari as the reserved-submissive-due-to-in-process-inquiry wife of martyred officer has been potrayed well. Writer and debutant director Aditya Dhar has managed to almost impeccably recreate the 10 days leading to the Uri surgical Strike. Cinematography and editing of the movie make you feel that you are actually on the battlefield witnessing the events live. The film is almost a no nonsense portrayal and is not at all of Salmanesque nature.. Bhai is firing and 40 people fire back and not even a single Bullet hits our all powerful bhai. There are one or two scenes though that are of a similar nature. Also Vicky Kaushal not being able to overcome his emotions and beating the hell (or Jannat ??) out of the attack handler with bare hands although he knows that he is pretty short of time is bit outlandish, considering the class of the rest of the movie!! Also in one scene, he has just started running away from the pak police and in the next he reaches the rest of his team. Whatever little knowledge that we have of the actual chronology of events, there was neither a drone nor a last minute change of plans in the attack!!

Screwvala had said, “We either have films like ‘Border’ or another war film. In this film, we have war, action, and strategy based on a true story. I think this combination will make the film stand out.” This film stands up to this quote.

I was really fascinated by the whole operation in which US killed Osama Bin Laden in a very clinically undercover plan and I wondered whether our country would be able to do so!! Whether earlier Indian governments have done it or not is a matter of political debate, but as of today our army is capable of performing search operations is a matter of great Pride. I sometimes feel very moved by such war, violence or encounter type movies but history is a witness to the fact that the non violent nature of our culture has been misconstrued and largely taken advantage of! So as of now there is no other option in sight. Some people have blasted this movie along with the accidental prime minister has another propaganda movie. However this movie is minimally politicised in nature. If this movie ignites even a small spark in our heart and in our minds of the greatest sacrifices that our armed forces undergo, then the movie served its purpose I believe. As normal citizens there are many little things that we can do to make our country better some of which are listed in an old post I had penned down. Feel free to add to the list.
