Jawaani Jaaneman.. something new or repackaged stuff?

The trailers of most of the films these days are enticing enough to make you watch the movie, unless of course you hate the genre altogether. So I decided to give it a chance, without much expectation.

I don\’t know why many of the film makers these days don\’t take the pains to even think of an original film name and name it instead based on a popular song. This film is another example. As can be predicted from the trailer, Jazz aka Jaswinder Kapoor (Saif Ali Khan) is a \”happy to be single and ready to mingle\” kind of a guy, well over the traditionally marriageable age. Then he bumps, quite literally into Tia (Alaya Furniturewala), who is his daughter. The remainder of the movie is how Jazz handles the fact and the situation after he learns that he is a father to a 21yr old girl who is about to become a single mother herself !!

The struggles of transformation from a carefree and careless single, to a single caring parent; mind churning thoughts, have been well depicted by the makers and well enacted by Saif. However, some things have been kept too simplistic like multi million dollar deal being scrapped within a second without any repercussions, just to hype the melodrama!! Thankfully, there are no cheap sex related jokes, or slapstick comedy. The film gets over in two hours, and doesn\’t get boring, although the end is quite predictable.

Saif has done well to give justice to his character. Tabu, ( as Saif\’s ex girlfriend ), as always, seems ageless and well prepared. The debutante Alaya Furniturewala, Pooja Bedi\’s daughter, seems like she\’s not in the film only because of her parentage, and can act! Kubbra Sait, Kumud Mishra, Chunky Pandey, Farida Jalal have done well as side kicks. Nitin Kakkar is at the top of his art with his direction. The writers Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal manage to keep you hooked, if not laughing endlessly. The music composers have treaded a safe path by remaking Saif\’s hits of the 1990\’s, which sounded pretty decent to the ears.

So if you are looking for light hearted entertainment, you can give it a shot!
