The \”accidental\” Prime Minister or a \”purposefully\” timed film..?

Let\’s get some things straight. There aren\’t any startling revelations in this movie. Even for those who haven\’t read the book and have very basic knowledge of Indian politics of the times.

So when the story is very much familiar, what else can you look for? There\’s barely any screen time for characters other than those of MMS and Sanjaya Baru. There is no built up to the story and starts right away from 2004 Loksabha election results. It seems like there was no one else other than Baru in his life. The film is almost entirely shot indoors. There\’s this election rally where MMS is addressing a crowd and rest of the leaders are sitting on a bench, as if in a college campus!! 😂😂 Really amusing! Apart from such amusing scenes, the film is pretty boring! The film potrays that MMS is upright in front of everyone except Baru and Sonia Gandhi, who can say anything to him!

Anupam Kher has this unusual streak of doing some really stupid characters and then some really challenging ones. This challenge he has handled quite well. Copying the mannerisms, tone, style of walking. Unfortunately, there isn\’t any other aspect and period of this life shown by the film makers. Suzanne Bernert has very well managed to recreate Sonia Maino\’s mannerisms, accent and shrewdness. Rahul Gandhi has been depicted as stupid as he is. There\’s this nicely sculpted scene where MMS is strolling in his typical robotic style for the first time towards the PM office. And there are the past MMS images, the FM MMS, the finance secretary MMS, the RBI governor MMS who he reminisces.

The movie is short and thankfully, doesn\’t have any songs. It has been tarnished by Congress saying that it is a proganda film.

1. Congress workers tore down a multiplex screen in Kolkata.

2. Maharashtra congress youth wing leader demanded a special screening.

3. Even the so called learned and hypocritical and then Censor board chief Pahlaj Nihlani demanded a NOC from MMS and Sonia Gandhi for the film.

So much for freedom of expression, isn\’t it?

Whether it is a propaganda film or not, that is for the viewer to decide. I think all the facts shown are already well known in public domain, even before the book was released. Even if it was a propaganda, it is a very poor attempt according to me!
