The movie begins with a cowboy SRK rescuing his girlfriend from a group of goons.. or so it seems…. The dialogues seemed like borrowed from a Sallu movie, the typical over the top style types, but the whole setup is just a mirage…
The movie goes on a downward spiral from that offbeat introductory punch ( pun{ch} intended!! ). Anushka\’s character has obviously been \’inspired\’ from the wheelchair bound world renowned and recognised late genius, Mr. Stephen Hawking! A wheelchair bound female scientist, a vertically challenged spoilt brat in love (or lust?) with an equally spoilt celebrity and the chemistry between the three.. However, the chemistry doesn\’t bring any H2O to your eyes. It does not arouse any appeal, empathy or any emotions for that matter. The movie is nicely put till the expected interval juncture. By the way, such an outgoing western bred Indo-Afgani scientist gets carried away by Bauua aka SRK\’s eager father and agrees to get married, or wait, is she in \’luvh\’ with him?? The expected \’Ye hamare pyaar ki nishaani hain\’ dialogue has no reference whatsover in later part of the movie, and their child suddenly disappears. There is a illogical and desperate attempt to encash the excessive guest appearances including the talented A-list artists R. Madhavan, Sridevi, Rani, Kajol, Alia, Abhay Deol, Karisma Kapoor, Juhi, Deepika, Arjun Kapoor, Ganesh Acharya, Remo Dsouza.. all to no avail as the story goes wayward… However, the most wrenching part for a die hard SRK fan is the guest appearance of Sallu bhai as a dance competition finale judge!! I mean, really??? Of all the people, Salman? With Ganesh Acharya and Remo Dsouza the other finalists with SRK. Irony just had a painful death!!
As far as acting is concerned, SRK\’s Bauua rocks! His sliding on the knees reminds us of Main hu Naa\’s \’Tumhe jo mene dekha\’, his usual trademark style of spreading his arms wide, the way he is teasing/wooing/encouraging Afiaa..!! SRK even after 30 years in bollywood hasn\’t stopped experimenting and this movie is an evidence. Although he has been stamped as king of romance, he has been experimenting in romantic and other films right from the start.. be it the anti hero in Baazigar, Darr, Anjam or patriotic films like Swades, Chak de or Paheli, Dear Zindagi, Fan, Raees, My name is Khan or Ra.One.. it takes a lot of self belief and guts when so much is at stake!! Whether he is playing a vertically challenged guy or a larger than life He Man, his charisma never fails to enthrall you..
Anushka\’s Afiaa is played well too.. Never does it look that she\’s faking it. However, I couldn\’t decipher couple of her dialogues of her cerebral palsy character. Don\’t know, whether it was just me, or common for everyone.
Kat has finally managed to put up her act together (pun intended) . She looks and acts every bit the alcohol addict rude top actress cum model.. or was she playing herself so she found it too easy?
There are many rich comic and romantic dialogues like.. कहानियो मे सुना था की प्यार मे आशिक चांद भी ले आते हैं, हम ने ये बात सिरियसली ले ली। as he embarks on a space mission. From the writer and co producer of films like Tanu weds Manu and its sequel, Ranjhana, Shubh Mangal savdhan, this one from Himanshu Sharma and Aanand L Rai is a disappointment. Mere Naam Tu is probably the only song worth recalling! There are many scenes which are plain dumb or highly intellectual that one cannot pick them up at the first go.. A world renown scientist getting carried away by a small towner\’s ability to \’shoot down\’ stars from heaven is something beyond far fetched.. Either this movie is completely inspired from Salman\’s ever so dumb movies, or she is supposedly purposefully appreciating it so as to not hurt him.
All in all, if you want to see SRK act in a film which Salman should have been in, considering the pointlessness and the dumbness in it, and would have fetched minimum 500 crores anyway because it\’s Bhai\’s movie, go for it!! Don\’t curse me later, I didn\’t warn you!
