After playing apna time aega for the past few days literally on infinite loop and checking out the trailer, this was definitely one of the most awaited movies for me!
It takes a lot of audacity to make a movie with such an offbeat theme for a hindi movie audience. A Dharavi based lad gone mad for rap, in love with a to be doc gal and the challenges that life throws at them. The movie touches the Dharavi life and our hearts. Along the way, it crosses topics like morales and ethics, friendship come what may, polygamy, infidelity(?), passion/submission/aggression… Some scenes might give you goosebumps. This movie proves that scenes need not be shot in foreign picturesque locations, or even Indian ones for that matter. Minimal setup but maximum effect, all because this movie connects with you at some level. There\’s not a single scene per se, that you can find fault with. By the way, I do believe that Murad\’s character deserves someone better than the demeaning and ultra possessive Safina.. Some dialogues crack you up out of nowhere while some might manage to inspire you for a lifetime. Thankfully the storyline has stayed away from some of the cliches like Ranveer\’s guide stealing his work after endearing him. I would have loved to see a built up to the last couple of minutes though!!
Ranveer Singh has taken a lot of efforts to get into the role of Murad.. that\’s what his Murad was! Alia is killing it, almost quite literally, in this movie. She is on a well chosen and well acted movie spree, box office hits being just the by-product. Vijay Raaz as the autocratic and angry (slightly) old man (father) essays his role nicely. The mother daughter duo of Jyoti Subhash and Amruta Subhash were a pleasant surprise as I couldn\’t figure out their presence from the trailer. Both of them love their respective sons inspite of their shortcomings.
Music: Now I am no expert in rap music but it sounded pleasant to the ears, more so because of the inspirational and situational lyrics. I will not further go into the lyrics as most of us have already played it to our hearts\’ content.
From the makers of ZNMD, DCH, Honeymoon travels pvt ltd., i.e. Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, this one\’s a masterpiece in its own right!!
Don\’t let anyone tell you your aukat… Prove your aukat.. And till then keep playing… Apna Time Aega!!
Well penned movie review Rahul ! ! Even I experienced same while watching Gulli Boy last night…. resonance of rap is catchy and has deep effect.
True! and thank you so much for the feedback!
Very well written
Thank you so much!
Just found the time to read this one. Well written! I did have goosebumps during some scenes (particularly jab “Apna time aayega” gaana finally aaya)
But let’s not forget the song Sher aaya sher, where we witnessed the entry of another ‘outsider’ newcomer into Bollywood – Siddhant Chaturvedi is here to stay! 😊
P.S.: I think its Vijay Raaz (not Naaz)
Last two points taken note of! And thanks.. for the compliment as well as suggestion..
Well, as far as Siddhant Chaturvedi is concerned, he looks a lot like Shahid kapoor according to me. Also has an emotive face like him!!
