Bohemian Rhapsody.. A King with a band named Queen..The story of mercurial Freddie Mercury that will \”Rock You\”!

Some things are just destined to happen! Similarly some movies, you are just destined to watch! This was one of them. There were no other decent movie tickets to be gotten and one of my dear friends was insisting on this one.

So the movie starts with a mercurial Mercury ready to take stage for a huge concert.. And then starts the whole flashback!

The urge to do something different keeps on pushing this young lad of Indian decent, who has been a disappointment for his dad, to set up a musical band of outliers who have nothing in common as one of the line in the movie goes… \”We are four misfits who don\’t belong together, playing for other misfits right at the back of the room, who are pretty sure they don\’t belong either, we belong to them…!!

I was never into musical cinema or English music per se. To tell you the truth, I have rarely heard any English songs, let alone being a fan of them.  But this movie and the stage performances left me mesmerised with goosebumps. This musical is a divine combination of deep yet simple meaning in the actual songs composed by the band, Rami Malek who plays Freddie and crew of the movie who have put in a lot of effort to present this biopic. I was reminded of Kishor Kumar, RD and Shammi Kapoor who used a pretty similar off the beaten track experiments for their music, movies, attire and choreography, to the extent of being loud, literally and figuratively!!

Evolving, innovating and constantly trying to do different things that people can relate to, and feel as being involved, was something that set the band Queen apart and made it popular afar..  There are the typical being carried away by popularity, breakup with the girlfriend , disintegration of the band, life and career threatening health problems scenes, all of which were real!! A certain amount of cinematic liberty has been taken to set up the climax by screwing up the chronology of real life events. But that will not deter you from getting ROCKED!!
