Kangana Ranaut, Rajkumar Rao, a psycho thriller and an engulfing trailer, what more could one ask for? But wait before you judge!!
The movie begins with Bobby aka Kangana being traumatized in her formative years because of the ill treatment meted out to her mother by her father. She voluntarily opts for a treatment at mental asylum after physically assaulting an employer in a bid to resist his sexual advances. As an adult, she becomes obsessed and quite literally gets into the skin of the on screen characters that she dubs for. As if this wasn\’t enough she gets obsessed with her new tenant Keshav, who has moved in with his wife. Things take a further turn into the unknown when his wife is found charred to death.
During the course of the movie, you empathize, sympathize, get angry at Bobby as she trust her instincts, and goes on in her own sporadic, quirky way, hurting people mentally and physically all along!! Pretty much like her real life, where Kangana has got the streak of speaking her heart out, without caring for being politically correct. She doesn\’t mess a single step here either. Rajkumar Rao as the unsuspecting, voyeuristic murderer plays it quite well. He potrays the alternation between seeming like a victim and perpetrator to perfection. Rest of the characters have a very limited role to play. The character with the 3rd most important screen time is probably the cockroach, which too is a hallucination of Bobby\’s mind!! The movie makes some thought provoking passing references on the epic of Ramayan. The songs are different to say the least. Cinematography makes you feel like you are living with the characters. The story tends to get a bit boring in the middle, with Bobby having repeated bouts of unruly behaviour and the plot going nowhere. But the last 10 minutes is where the twist lies, and the story almost turns upside down on its head.
There are some situations in life, where one is confused between intuition or being \”rational\”, and many a great people have said that do what your heart tells you what is right! More often than not, it is correct! Also, a mentally unstable person need not be tagged for life. There are some life changing experiences that he/she has gone through. Mental illness needs to be treated at par with physical illness. With patience and perseverance, he can be rejuvenated!!
