Dreamgirl review.. Dreamgirl.. of a different kind!

To be brutally honest, I was sceptical of watching this movie, because this so called cross gender comedy does not suit my taste. But then, when you have Ayushmann to shoulder the responsibility, nothing seems impossible.

After a wide range of films including Article 15, Andhadhun and Badhai Ho in the recent past, Ayushmann khurrana ventured into this tricky role. With the masculine voice that he has, it\’s really cool that he has managed to dub quite well in a female voice. It\’s almost like he carries the movie single handedly on his able shoulders. Cross dressing wherever done, is in no way cheap unlike many other movies of such type. Same is the case with the quality of dialogues. There are many more punchlines than ones in the trailer. Nusrat Bharucha, who is still young in the industry and hasn\’t ventured much beyond Luv Ranjan\’s trio on relationships, plays the protagonist\’s love interest. She has managed to carry herself well with the limited scope that she had here. Vijay Raaz as the usual irritated with life character, the aging but young at heart Annu Kapoor, Manjot Singh as the always ready to help but lovingly kamina friend all add spice to the film. Every song has a different feel, beats and style to it and are worth listening.

The levels to people go in love have been depicted well in the movie. When Karam played by Ayushman tries to dissuade the people who have fallen in love with the fictional Pooja, all of them decide to go any extent to get her. This convincing starts becoming slightly boring but is kept well in check. The irony is that although the movie focuses on the fact that we are having lesser face to face social interaction and craving for love, the protagonist seems to impress his love quite easily, even as his professional and remaining personal life falls apart. Nevertheless, it carries a truly contemporary message which needs to be pondered upon.
