After getting bored of a lot of bloody web series, I chanced upon this one!! Tucked under the loads of over hyped web series, I found this one out of the league, out of the blue.
So this is the story of Dhruv Sharma ( played by Omkar Kulkarni), his two friends Kabir Bhuller (Chinmay Chandraunshush) and Susu (Visshesh Tiwari), and his love interest Chhavi Upadhyay ( Rashmi Agdekar). This is the story of Dhruv\’s first \”bike\”, first date, first drink, and many more firsts! And why not, the tag line itself goes, \” Life mein pehli baar!\”. The dialogues will leave you in splits from the word go, up till the very end. The straightforward and straight from the heart Dhruv, the wannabe cool stud cum wannabe bad guy Kabir, the way too naive and hence stupid sounding colour blind Susu and the studious, matured and cute Chhavi will leave definitely leave you reminiscing about your school/ early college life and will make you happy! The Sharma surname seems to have been purposely used to encash the \”Sharmaji ka beta\” jokes and memes which are all over the social media. The institution has the typical teacher in Jitendra Kumar who tries to enforce his pathetic English upon the students. Jitendra Kumar is the one whom we have seen in the Ayushman starrer Shubh Mangal jyada savdhaan, Amazon Prime webseries Panchayat and in TVF\’s Kota Factory. On multiple occasions, he refers to the students participating in a play as \”Playboys\”, if you know what it means!! 😉 The cuteness, the simplicity on the young actors\’ face will brighten your screens and your hearts. The writers D.Krishna Prasad, Abhishek Yadav, Nishaad Zaveri and Suprith Kundar have done their job exceedingly well, crafting the perfect punches at the perfect time. There have been quite a few variants of the Spiderman famous dialogue \” With great power comes great responsibility\”. Here, while debating on buying a Scooty Pep or Bullet, goes this variant, \” With great horsepower comes great responsibility\”. There\’s another dialogue which goes, \” Agar parents Sher hain to hum Mowgli hain\”. The series features a very modest school building and premises to give it a middle class school look rather than the Doon-only -for -the -rich – kids- school look. Direction by Prem Mistry has added to the brilliance of this web series. It is produced by TVF which has given many hits like the TVF Pitchers, Kota Factory and Permanent Roommates in the past.
For me, this is one of the best series ever, across languages! This web series was India\’s official selection for the Cannes film festival 2018 in the Canneseries category. Rightly promoted as \”the misadventures of the young, dumb and broke\” you will relive your school and early college life while watching this. The series premiered long ago in February 2019 and is available on MX Player.
